Buying and selling property during the Coronavirus outbreak

Under current guidelines, you can now buy, sell, and move. Still, we understand that it can feel like an uncertain time. We’ve answered your questions and are here to reassure you that we’re doing everything to help you buy and sell your homes safely.

What does this mean if I am in the process of buying or selling a house?

It is now possible to re-start the process of buying or selling a house, including viewing properties, surveying, conveyancing, and moving. But we’re still adapting and the circumstances continue to change on a daily basis, so we’re asking our customers to be flexible. This may mean doing some steps virtually or allowing more time for a home sale in the case that anyone involved develops symptoms. 

If anyone in your household is self-isolating or displaying symptoms of coronavirus, then you should not be progressing with a house sale until it is safe for you to do so.

What does this mean if I want a valuation? 

We can still value your home and get you on the market, simply book a valuation to get started. Valuations will be carried out virtually wherever possible, using apps like Whatsapp, FaceTime, or Zoom. If you’re not sure how to use them, we can talk you through it. 

We can carry out physical valuations and photography visits when needed. Our Strike agents and homeowners must follow the government guidelines for in-person valuations: 

  • Clean your hands immediately before and after the visit

  • Minimise contact with surfaces during the visit and clean surfaces and door handles afterwards

  • Leave internal doors open and keep spaces free of clutter

  • Restrict the number of people present, if at all possible

What does this mean if I want to list my property?

If you’re looking to sell your home, we’re happy to list your property and get started. But we also understand that things are changing and you might not be sure if this is the right time for you to sell. Your Strike agent will talk you through the current market and what you’re looking for from a home sale, to work out what’s in your best interest. 

Can property viewings take place?

Yes, property viewings are now permitted by the government, as per latest guidance

Although you can have in-person viewings, our advice is still to carry out viewings virtually wherever possible. Simply book a viewing through the website and use our messaging facility to arrange it.   

Physical viewings should only be carried out if necessary — and if both the seller and buyer agree to follow the government guidelines. At the moment, open house viewings should not take place.  

It’s important that everyone follows government guidelines for all in-person viewings:

  • Maintain a minimum of 2 metres distance from others wherever possible

  • Clean your hands immediately before and after the viewing

  • Minimise contact with surfaces during the visit and clean surfaces such as door handles afterwards

  • Leave internal doors open and keep spaces free of clutter

  • Restrict the number of people present, if at all possible
