House selling has become an online business — the vast majority of buyers start their home search online, whether they’re ready to move or just browsing and dreaming (no judgement from us, we all do it). So when it’s time to sell your home in the UK, you want to make sure you’re on the best websites to sell your home.  But it can be a little overwhelming. What’s the best property portal? Where can you find the most buyers? That’s what we’re here for. We know that there are a lot of property selling websites in the UK, so we’ll help you get started.

What are some of the top house selling websites in the UK?

As we said, there are quite a few major house-selling websites in the UK. Some buyers may look at a whole range of websites when they’re looking to buy a home, some may stay with just one or two major ones. Some buyers have dozens of alerts set, looking for something really specific — while others may just like to browse. Every buyer is different so it’s just about finding them by being on the top house-selling websites.  Firstly, it may help to look at the two different kinds of property websites. Property portals, which are sites that feature listings from lots of different estate agents — think places like Rightmove and Zoopla — are normally the biggest sites with the most traffic. But there are also agent sites, like the Strike property search, there are websites where owners can sell their home privately, like The House Shop, and even regional property sites.  We’re mostly going to focus on the major selling sites here, because those are the ones that can get you in front of the most buyers.

So, what are some of the best websites for selling your house? The biggest websites for selling your home in the UK include:

As we said, there are smaller sites — and regional ones, in some cases — but we’re going to stick with the bigger ones. Let’s look a little more about the best property sites out there and why it’s so important to consider them when you’re selling your home. (Spoiler alert: Don’t stress too much — unless you’re selling privately, an estate agent will take care of all of this for you.)

Which website is best for selling a house?

So, if there are a lot of different websites, which is the best website for selling your home? In some ways, this isn’t a question that is likely to come up. Most estate agents list on one, or all, of the major portals, so that choice will be made for you when choosing an estate agent.  In general, Rightmove and Zoopla are considered the biggest property portals. But you knew that already, didn’t you? Because you’ve probably spent way too much time browsing them, imagining life in a cosy Cotswolds cottage or wrapped in the exposed brick of a Manchester loft…or maybe that’s just us. But, whether you’re personally a browser or not, they are the biggest. Rightmove gets a whopping 141 million visits each month. That’s a lot of eyeballs. Or maybe it’s just one set of eyeballs, visiting 141 million times. Either way, it’s a busy place.

Interestingly, the busiest minute on Rightmove is apparently a Wednesday evening at 8:48 pm. Why? No idea. Not even going to pretend to have an idea. The world works in mysterious ways.  But the point is, Rightmove has a ton of traffic — and Zoopla also gets tens of millions of visitors per month. These two portals are normally thought of as the best sites to sell your home in the UK. That many visitors is a chance for your property to get a lot of attention, so we’d always recommend making sure you’re listed in Rightmove, Zoopla, or both.

Which site is most accurate for house price?

Another interesting question when selling a house is the best place to find an agent versus the best place to advertise your home, or list it, for sale.  So what if you’re trying to find out how much your home might be worth? Remember, most estate agents will have their own property listing section of their webpage and, in a slightly confusing twist, most of the property portals will also have valuation tools. What a world. Basically, we would say you can use as many online estimate tools as you like (we even have one), to get a sense of what your property might be worth. So sure, put your address on Rightmove or Zoopla — look around. But when you want an accurate valuation, we’d always recommend talking to an estate agent for the most accurate house price.
